Taste of Ethiopia” è un racconto visivo che esplora l’anima profonda dell’Etiopia, terra considerata la culla dell’umanità. Attraverso questo reportage fotografico, l’obiettivo cattura la sacralità del Timkat (l’Epifania etiope), documentando la solenne processione dei Tabot e il suggestivo rito dell’acqua tra canti e danze millenarie.

L’Etiopia è una terra dove il tempo segue una cadenza sacra. Non è solo la culla dell’umanità, ma un cuore pulsante di tradizioni millenarie e una fede incrollabile che permea ogni aspetto della vita quotidiana.

“Taste of Ethiopia” è il mio viaggio visivo: un racconto catturato attraverso l’obiettivo per testimoniare l’armonia e le contraddizioni di questa terra straordinaria.

Tutto parte dal fragore del Timkat, l’Epifania etiope. Una marea umana che ondeggia tra canti e danze ritmiche, scortando i solenni Tabot — le repliche dell’Arca dell’Alleanza — avvolti in drappi preziosi. I colori intensi dei paramenti sacerdotali si fondono con il bianco candido della folla nel rito dell’acqua: un momento di gioia purissima in cui i fedeli rinnovano il loro patto con Dio.

Oltre la festa, emerge la fede quotidiana. Nelle antiche chiese scavate nella roccia, i volti velati delle donne etiopi, segnati dal tempo, raccontano storie di devozione ininterrotta e sguardi che guardano all’infinito.

C’è poi il resto della vita, fatta dei riti che appartengono a tutti noi: un matrimonio che esplode per giorni tra musica e colori, o un funerale, momento di composta dignità dove la comunità si stringe intorno al dolore, condividendo una speranza incrollabile.

L’Etiopia è un luogo a sé, che ci ricorda le nostre medesime origini e costringe a guardare oltre la superficie. L’Etiopia non si visita: si vive e si assapora.

Ethiopia is a land where time follows a sacred rhythm. It is not only the cradle of humanity but a pulsing heart of millennial traditions and an unwavering faith that permeates every aspect of daily life.

“Taste of Ethiopia” is my visual journey: a narrative captured through the lens to witness the harmony and contradictions of this extraordinary land.

It all begins with the sacred clamor of Timkat, the Ethiopian Epiphany. A human tide sways to rhythmic songs and dances, escorting the solemn Tabots — replicas of the Ark of the Covenant — wrapped in precious cloths. The intense colors of the priestly vestments blend with the pure white of the crowd during the ritual of the water: a moment of sheer joy in which the faithful renew their covenant with God.

Beyond the celebration, daily faith emerges. In ancient churches carved into the rock, the veiled faces of Ethiopian women, marked by time, tell stories of uninterrupted devotion and gazes that look toward the infinite.

Then there is the rest of life, made of the same rituals that belong to us all: a wedding that explodes for days in music and color, or a funeral, a moment of composed dignity where the community gathers around sorrow, sharing an unshakeable hope.

Ethiopia is a world unto itself, reminding us of our shared origins and forcing us to look beneath the surface. Ethiopia is not merely visited: it is lived and savored.
